Matt Stachelski Memorial Scholarship

Meet Matt

Matt Stachelski '11,  was one of the best students to graduate from the Technical Communication (UXCD) degree program. In class, he proved himself to be an effective researcher, writer, and collaborator; out of class, he led numerous initiatives that benefited the MSOE and Milwaukee communities. His approach toward leadership was through the heart of a servant. He was smart and funny, empathetic and passionate. He was very good at being the best version of himself.

Matt exemplified the MSOE Mindset long before the university formally defined it. He was a leader of character, a responsible professional a passionate learner, and a value creator. He was the true definition of an MSOE graduate.

Why We Ride

Tragically, Matt died in a house fire in October 2015. To honor his memory and legacy, the Matt Stachelski Memorial Bike Ride was started, creating a scholarship in his name.

Matt was always going out of his way to help people but never told others of these acts of kindness, creating many stories to be uncovered over the years.

As an avid cyclist, biking was always present with Matt - from building his own bikes, to track racing and road racing, to cyclocross. When creating a way to remember him, a bike ride just made sense. While we can no longer take a ride with Matt, we can ride with his friends and family and uncover more stories every year, all while helping a student in his memory.

As long as there are students at MSOE who exemplify the same qualities as Matt, who need and deserve financial assistance, we will happily continue his legacy of helping others.

Join the Ride

The Matt Stachelski Memorial Bike Ride is a leisurely summer afternoon cycling together. The bike ride begins on the MSOE campus at Walter Schroeder Library, then heads up the Oak Leaf Trail to the Estabrook Beer Garden—where we enjoy refreshments and each other’s company. A brief remembrance of Matt ensues before cycling back to MSOE.

Join us on September 12, 2021 from 1-4pm.
