Impact

At MSOE, we are dedicated to promoting an academic environment marked by an unwavering respect for every individual. These efforts are paramount to our mission to be an inclusive community of experiential learners driven to solve the complex challenges of today and tomorrow.

Much of this work is made possible by our generous alumni, friends and sponsors who share our commitment to cultivate an environment where all are comfortable and appreciated for their unique values, experiences and beliefs. While we have made amazing strides over the years, the work in this area is never done and we will continue to enhance our efforts.

Your gift to Diversity and Inclusion will provide:

• Support for the Student Diversity Counsel, including scholarships for training programs.
• Improvements to the Multicultural Affairs Lounge.
• Guest speakers, diversity training, bystander intervention training and more all centering around topics of social justice for LGBTQ+, gender and racial equality, religious freedom and cultural awareness for students, faculty and staff.
• Student participation in the Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (WAICU) Student Diversity Conference where students will get the opportunity to connect with peers at Wisconsin education institutions. MSOE is also being considered to host this conference.

Diversity and Inclusion at MSOE

MSOE welcomes students, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds from across the U.S. and around the world. We strive to help make quality education available to everyone regardless of their race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, disability, veteran-status, religion, age and socio-economic status. Learning with individuals who represent different groups and different values can broaden your horizons and help our students become well-rounded global citizens.

Diversity brings unique gifts and talents including cultures, worldviews, perspectives, opinions and beliefs that will affirm your values as well as challenge them. At MSOE we all have something to share and something to learn. From student organizations to special events and programs, we promote and celebrate diversity and inclusion every day. In 2020, MSOE appointed Seandra Mitchell to serve as the vice president of student affairs and campus inclusion in an effort to provide strong leadership and a clear direction. Since then, we have taken several steps to help improve diversity and strengthen the climate of equity and inclusion on our campus including bringing in a master diversity trainer, DEI consultant, civil rights activists and bystander intervention trainers while increasing our involvement with our student organizations that highlight diversity.
