This year, Dick '70 and Fran Powers have set a challenge for the MSOE community to make a difference in the lives of our student veterans and current military. Dick served 39 months during the Vietnam War, was deployed to Germany where he was part of the team that set up the first Satellite Communications station in Europe. During Dicks time at MSOE. every Vet graduated. We need your help to get to $3,000 between November 23, 2020 - December 1, 2020 to UNLOCK an additional $3,000 of support from Dick '70 and Fran Powers to support MSOE Veteran Support Services.
MSOE is proud to offer many resources for current military, veterans, and veteran dependents. MSOE has been designated a Military Friendly School by Victory Media each year since 2013. Veterans and current military are an important part of the MSOE community and they need our support.
At MSOE, the Student Veterans Organization is a vital group we are proud to have established. The student-led group helps bridge the gap between the military and civilian life by acting as an advocacy group to the administration, a career services utility, and an event planner. The organization is composed of current military, veterans, and veteran dependents. The organization hosts social and service events, informational sessions with VA representatives, hands-on sessions for healthcare enrollment and claim submission, and career service opportunities. The group is so much more than “just” a student organization and the program is so much more than “just” support. Formed as a way to ensure that veterans don’t feel alone as they go through their schooling at MSOE, it has turned into a powerhouse of advocacy and support for current and prospective students.
In addition, a few years ago MSOE established the Veterans Lounge which is a secure space for military and veteran students to socialize and study in a welcoming and comfortable environment.
